Healthy Granola and Granola Bars

Granola bars are quite possibly one of the easiest things to snack on. They are portable and can fit into anything from a purse to a gym bag. Many of them combine delicious flavors so it feels like you’re getting a little bit of a treat but are advertised as a healthy option for a snack. Unfortunately, what many people don’t realize is that oftentimes granola bars have almost as much sugar as some candy bars. There are many healthier options out there you just have to find them and there are new options all the time. Here are some suggestions for healthy granola bars and granola.

Larabar Nut and Seed Bars – The Larabar company has several different types of bars in their lineup but the Nut and Seed Bars are the most granola bar-like. Larabar makes their bars completely out of whole ingredients with no added sugars or ingredients you can’t pronounce. They are my favorite kind of bar because of how clean and simple the ingredients are, and they taste delicious!

RX Bars – These are another granola bar that clearly displays their simple ingredients on the outside of the package. Most of their bars contain egg whites for protein and dates to help keep all of the ingredients together. These bars are also very allergy and special diet-friendly because there is no dairy, no soy, and no gluten in any of their bars. They even have pumpkin flavors right now to go along with the season.

Kind Healthy Grains – KIND is another company with a lot of options for different bars and snacks. On their website, they list every single ingredient they use in their products from A-Z. The bars are made with 100% whole grains and they taste delicious!

Purely Elizabeth Granola – This brand of yogurt is becoming very popular and their Chocolate Sea Salt Probiotic Granola is made with Ganeden BC30 which is a strand of healthy bacteria which is vegan and non-GMO. This granola will give you double the probiotics which will help improve your gut health. The coconut palm sugar used to sweeten it is low-glycemic which won’t make your blood sugar spike.

Paleonola Granola – As is evident by the title, this granola is paleo-friendly and one of the more energy-dense granolas. However, all the fat in the granola comes from the nuts and other natural sources that are in it like coconut, almonds, and pepitas, rather than from a synthetic or unhealthy source. It is also very sweet granola, but this comes from the honey used to sweeten.

Granola bars and granola are easy snacks to grab on the go. Granola adds a little something to your yogurt and can be a nice change from your regular cereal. The key when looking at granola products is to make sure your main ingredients aren’t sugar or things you can’t pronounce. Bars that are high in fiber and protein will help you stay full longer. Ultimately, just check the label when going through the granola aisle at the grocery store.
